ACT
Step 1. To obtain a firearms licence in the ACT applicants must have a ‘reason to acquire’. For clay target shooting this requires being a financial member of an approved club.
The minimum requirement to be a member of MPGC SSAA ACT is yearly membership of both MPGC ($100 to be paid at the club) and SSAA which can be paid online. Please select Preferred Branch: CANBERRA.
Step 2. Undertake Safety Course for A and B firearm categories.

Step 3. To request a licence download Adult Firearms Licence Application.
Step 4. Part (3) of the Adult Firearms Licence Application: CLUB ASSOCIATIONS (Continued) must be completed by a club committee member. This can be arranged on any Wednesday night.
Step 5. Paid Category A and B Firearms licence ($166 for 5 Years). Payment can be made through Access Canberra. Select ‘Adult Licence Application’.
Step 6. Now you can submit your licence application to ACT Firearms Registry, 86 Vicars Street Mitchell ACT. Don’t forget to attach safety certificate and receipt from Access Canberra. Note their limited trading hours. Mon-Fri 8:00am- 1:00pm and 2:00pm-4:00pm (closed the last Friday of each month).
Processing / Cooling Off takes 28 days.
Congratulations!! You are now licensed.
Step 7. Before acquiring a shotgun, you must install an approved firearm safe. See Category A and B firearms.
Step 8. Now that you have received your firearm licence you can now apply for a Permit to Acquire. The permit registers your new shotgun to your licence. Firearm Permit Application cost of $38. This can also be made through Access Canberra select ‘Permit to Acquire a Firearm’.
Step 9. Choosing a shotgun for clay target shooting requires both art and science. Your best bet is to speak to as many club members as possible before choosing your new shotgun.
Step 10. Once you have found the right shotgun a firearms dealer will need to complete the permit to acquire.
Step 11. The permit to acquire will then need to be submitted to the ACT Firearms Registry 86 Vicars Street Mitchell ACT attached with Permit to Acquire receipt from Access Canberra.

Congratulations!! You can now collect your shotgun.
Purchasing cartridges can be conducted through the club. We have a number of brands including B&P, Gamebore, Bronzewing, and Nobel Sport.
At present you are able to participate in the MPGC’s practice, SSAA 5 Stand and SSAA Sporting Clay competitions.
To compete in DTL, Skeet and ISSF competitions you will need to join Australian Clay Target Association. This will allow you to compete not only at MPGC but all 300 ACTA all affiliated clay target clubs in Australia.
To compete in SCA Sporting Clays, you will need to join Sporting Clays Australia.
