To obtain a firearms licence in the NSW applicants must have a ‘reason to acquire’. For clay target shooting this requires being a financial member of an approved club.
The minimum requirement to be a member of MPGC SSAA ACT is yearly membership of both MPGC ($100 to be paid at the club) and SSAA which can be paid online. Please select Preferred Branch: CANBERRA.
Undertake Safety Course for A and B firearm categories.
Monaro Arms regularly conducts the course. Follow the link to book a place.
Go to the Apply for a firearms licence (individual) And Select the ‘Apply online’ button.
Link the NSW Police Force to your MyServiceNSW account.
Complete the online application form and submit. Service NSW will send you an email confirming your application has been successfully submitted.
If everything checks out, you will receive a Photograph Advice letter requesting you to attend a Service NSW Centre to have your photo taken. Make sure you visit the service centre before your Photograph Advice expires.
Processing / Cooling Off takes 28 days
Congratulations!! You are now licensed.
Before acquiring a shotgun, you must install an approved firearm safe. See Category A and B firearms.
Now that you have received your firearm licence you can now apply for a Permit to Acquire. This can be done through your Service NSW Account Via the link to NSW police. The progress can also be monitored online. Permits do have a time limit.
Choosing a shotgun for clay target shooting requires both art and science. Your best bet is to speak to as many club members as possible before choosing your new shotgun.
Once you have found the right shotgun a firearms dealer will need to complete the permit to acquire.
The permit to acquire will then be submitted by the firearm dealer and you will receive temporary registration papers for your gun until official ones come via the post.
Processing / Cooling Off takes 28 days for your first gun in each catergory, there after will only take processing time.
Congratulations!! You can now collect your shotgun.
